ok cats & kitties - are you ready to rawk...
to get down with those disciples of groove, the kings of the backbeat, the double set of twins of twang, the dukes of hurt, the subject of their very own rockumentary -
they lived, they loved, they rocked and then they died, soon to be straight to DVD (well after acclaimed indie film-maker, 2 time emmy winner [!!]Jocko Hedblade writes, shoots and directs it), that's right, those gawds of mayhem & merriment will be performing this week - and the next - at the following palaces of sin...

Ok, two gigs in one day. One is critical and important.
In the evening we will be @ D.R. Diggers from 9-1 and kickin' that roadhouse holler out! This will be maximum rock'n'roll in tight spaces and guaranteed a gutbucket good time. But, in the day, read on...

This is for a great cause and a great time will be had by all. The organizers have put a lot of time & energy into making this event a glorious time for all. It is our own mini NOLA Woodstock. So, do a good deed and rock out in the bargain... One great band after another! And smoke free too! Don't miss this. This will be the event that all will be talking about for months after....

d.) Humane Society (10%)

Drinks of all kinds will be provided by Alto Vineyards, Lil' Porgy's and Pekara Bakery will be there to provide great food! We will be selling "Shelter From The Storm" Tee-shirts there (all proceeds again will go to hurricane disaster relief) A big tent, provided by Herriotts will be there - so that the event will go on, rain or shine!

Finally, WWHP 98.3 FM ("The Whip") will be broadcasting the day's events live! More details can be found on our SFTS website: http://www.hep.uiuc.edu/home/serrede/cusftsbc.html
Directions & a map for Alto Vineyards can be found on their website at:
http://www.altovineyards.net/contacts.htm

To get to Alto Vineyards, go north on Mattis Ave, and then go west on Bloominton Rd (=Illinois 150) (@ this intersection just south of I-74). Take Duncan road north shortly after crossing over I-57. North Duncan road is kind of curvy here, so you'll go past a church and some other buildings, then cross over I-74. Duncan Rd then straightens out going due north again, and Alto Vineyards is just a bit further along, on the east side of Duncan Rd. It's the same place where a nursery/garden center used to be some years back...

It should be a great time out there on Saturday - especially if the weather is cooperative - so please come and join us!!!

MTV NEWS Flash
Teen Idol, Kenny McNichols, despite his clean sweep on the Be the lead singer of INXS reality show, has decided to stay in the Delta Kings.  Said our resident dreamboat, " While I love Kangaroos and all those movies about the guy with the big knife, being the only Yank in a band of antipodean former colonialists seemed like too much of a cultural sea shift for me, so I shall remain in Central Illinois, or, at least until, the Replace Janis Joplin in Big Brother reality Show ( !!!!!!!!!!!).

So, the lads take their special brand of zany antics on the road this Saturday, July 16th, to the incomparable Shovelhead Tavern in beautiful Danville, Illinois.  This new Rockatorium is an awesome place to party like it was 1994 and you can't shake a stick without hitting - but not scratching, mind you- a Harley Davidson.  So, come on down to my boat baby and play, play, play.

ok, here's the news for y'all with the blooze.
The internationally acclaimed (well, someone from Italy got real excited about the band once), are back in the high-life again. Bringing their whiskey drenched anthems of self-destruction and celebration of all that is glorious about rock'n'roll to the legendary smokehouse on Neil street - The Phoenix - and let's face it - nuthin' say rock out like, cinderblock, cheap brew, pool tables, sexy bartender (shout out to Chrissy) and cigarette smoke, like the Phoenix. So, you have been warned, get your booty on the good footy and c'mon down!

Friday, May 6th - 9pm - 1am @ The Phoenix!

ps. don't you rock dogs party so hard that you forget Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday!

Delta Kings Are at the Legendary Cowboy Monkey in Beautiful Downtown Champaign this Friday, the dreaded Pirate IRS day of April 15th. Come and drown you Sorrows with the Boys, so read on...

Ok, kats and Kitties,
this is the rockin scoop, pull your buggies up to the Cowboy Monkey this Friday for some jivin' & swingin' like you ain't never done seen before. Fresh off the Jerry Lee Atrics tour ( you had to be there to believe it), the DK's are fresh for more Rock'n'Roll combat duty. Every man (& woman) is expected to do his (or her) duty and show the Monkey how we do that voodoo that we do when we hoodoo that scooby doo. It will rock and it will rock hard!

Oh and don't forget to vote for the boys in The HUB's best of issue that is out now. They need to win, before they die! Cue a little guilt, maestro...

• 4/05/05
Ok Folks,
Here's the deal to make the boys squeal.  Fresh off the heels of asking you to vote in the WPGU poll, we come to you again, with our hats in our hands and ask you all to give us another toss in the poll in the current issue/s of The Hub.  Under the heading "Create" is the "Best Local Band" category. Please fill in The  Delta Kings and then mail to The Hub @ One Main Plaza, Suite 222 in Downtown Champaign or mail to same address (zip is 61820) or drop off with the DK's this Friday @ the Phoenix.

And by the by,
for the "Music (CD's, etc.)" category, if you have already visited or are on the verge, or you would just like to trust us on this one, the coolest, most actual cool people working at it, indie record store in town is downtown @ One Main and called Exile On Main Street. So, a vote for this new music store would probably be most appreciated by Jeff & Jim, the owners.

Now to the Delta Kings this week...
The Phoenix - Friday April 8th, 9-1.
Cody & Terry may be injured, but the show must rock on ( and feel free to wear some cool and sexy nurses outfits), so, bottom line, the meds are working and the DK's can take a knockin' and yet keepa rockin'!!

• 3/29/05

In the meantime...
Please do not forget to vote for the Delta Kings for Best Band" and Best Live Performance in the first annual C-U Music awards.  Help the boys bring home the award bacon. Over 600 gigs, no food returned and all beer enjoyed.  So, please and pretty please with a cherry on top (I'm beggin' here), click here and let 'em know your vote counts.

Clarification on the Voting Deal
Tho', we are not listed on the first two pages of the poll, on the 3rd page is A Best Live Performance (Reader's Choice) and a Best Band (Reader's Choice) and Best Record (Reader's Choice).  These categories have a "write in" space.  So please click to the 3rd page and then you can vote for the Delta Kings and then page 4 has to be filled out.

Thank you to all for inquiring "how to vote".

Brothers & sisters, You say you need to rock, you say you need to roll, well then get yourself down to where the primeval voodoo oozes out of the swamp to the darkest reaches of your soul...  That's rights Brothers & sisters, I am talking about that evil, hips-swaying, undulating, degenerating Rock that Rolls.

The Delta Kings, messengers of rhythm, kings of swings, ambassadors of sound that wont get ya down.
This Week appearing at: 2/26/05 - Saturday - D.R. Digger's  9-1.am.

And next week...

The Boys are back in Town...
Thanks to everyone in Embarras (pronounced "Mbra") A.B.A.T.E. for a great all day party last Saturday.  A lot of money was raised by the brothers & sisters for Charity. A great bunch. Special thanks to Bubba and Cherilynn for being so good to the band.

2/11/05 - Friday - The Phoenix  AKA, the smokatorium on Neil.  9–1am.
All night!

ok folks, here's a news flash...
cody has had his left arm in a sling since Monday night. so, the question sports fans is this, will he or won't he be able to play geetar by next Friday? lawd knows the boy suffers  for his art (or maybe, it's Terry, Bill & Kenny who suffer through his art, hmmm...), but he is determined to do his best and throw off the medical shackles on his arm and play; and while it is not quite as exciting to see if legendary dead NYC rocker Johnny Thunders shows up or dies at a gig, it is the best we can do at this time. So come on down and see if righteous hand of the rock'n'roll gods swoop down with a miracle.
THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

• 01/10/05

2004
To our Friends, Fans & Family
We hope that you all have had a great summer of Backyard Bar-b-Ques. Poker Runs, Long Rides, and vacation time.

The Delta Kings have been enjoying their hiatus, but are getting itchy (already!) to get back in front of the loving public. During their break they have been rehearsing and learning lotsa new stuff, which they will have ready for their return to the stage (or floor of the bar).

Temporary Farewell
The Delta Kings will be appearing this week:
Friday @ The Phoenix in Downtown Champaign 9-1
Saturday In Danville @ the Friendly Tavern from 6:00 till midnite (approximately)

Be there because after that, and after eleven years and 560 gigs and always, Kenny, Billy, Terry & Cody ( and a multitude of new guitars, amps and drumsets), the band is going on hiatus. We all need to take a break in order to be able to continue. We need some time to re-charge our tired batteries. The plan is to re-group in October or November and pick up where we left off, but hopefully, refreshed and with a renewed sense of purpose.

We thank everyone for all their support; our friends in the bars, all of the Harley riders and their old ladies, the club bartenders, waitress and talent bookers, anyone who ever bought our CD's, the press and our families. It has been a blast. And we are eternally grateful for you all turning out night after night. We will never be able to tell you how much you have all meant to us. Thank you from Kenny, Billy, Terry & Cody. You are the best and we thank you mightily.

If the van's a rockin', don't come a knockin', the more you drink, the better we sound, a legend that will last a lunchtime...

A new web address!
You can find us simply at www.deltakings.com – of course the old URL will continue to work.  Until the new site, this is the place....

Gary Strater Benefit at Fat City
Tuesday, April 27, 2004
"What a wonderful event. The weather co-operated in that ,tho' cloudy, the rain never came. And Gary is our new personal hero. What a guy! Despite his illness, he played not only with ESP, his most recent band (who incidentally tore up the joint), but closed the night with an inspiring and highly emotional set with his his recently reformed 70's band, Starcastle, who re-united with the entire original line-up. Gary played his heart out and all of us got a lesson in courage.

Hats off to all the people and bands to gave so much of their energy & time to this important event, not least of whom Dru and her posse of tireless (and tired) organizers, the great folks from Corson and all the awesome sound guys, all the bands ( and btw - everybody sounded especially great - must be because of all the musicians standing around watchin' and because how much everyone cares for Gary), The folks @ Fat City and most of all, all of you for coming out and supporting Gary Strater."

$22,000 was raised for Gary!!! Again, thanks to all of you!!!!!!

Thursday, February 5, 2004
The band thanks all for coming out to The HighDive last week on a freezing cold night and packing the joint... and a big hats off to Tommy Castro and the boys and, of course, Ward, Champaign's biggest booster of live music!Don't miss us this Friday, February 6th at the fabulous PHOENIX on Neil Street in Champaign with no cover and no guarantee that we won't play some covers.

Thanks to all the Din-O-Sores and all their beautiful ladies for being the wild party animals they are and for making it a rockin', boogie-filled night. Good to see so many people from C-U down at Champs in Mattoon for the party too. Thanks to Kelly & Jessica for keeping the dance floor hoppin." Always a thrill when good-looking younger girls stay on the dance floor all night!

D.R. Diggers!!!! This place is turning into a pretty cool place to see the band. Good acoustics - you can hear all the "happy" folks rooting us on real well!!! Remember, the more you drink, the better we sound.

03/16/03

Thanks to Doug and Tami all the brothers & sisters of The Flatlanders A.B.A.T.E. Chapter for a great "itchin' to ride" party. We boogied until the sun came up (kinda) and thanks to our Decatur/Sullivan/Bethany friends for showing up. Rock'n'Roll

THIS WEEK IN DELTA KING HISTORY...
March 15, 1995 - somebody in the band purchased a new piece of equipment - can you believe it? Terry got a haircut and Bill purchased gas for the van ---Wow! (hopefully this feature will improve with time or die a fast merciful death). One last thing - Props to Koko Harden (blues chanteuse and sometime delta queen) and the King Bees. the dk rock gossip squad caught their set at the embassy in urbana, last weekend and was blown away, not just by the boffo box office, but by the swingin' tones that emanated from the bandstand.

03/09/03
Another super time @ the Phoenix. Lotsa friends and old friends. Between last week at Diggers and this weekend at our fave downtown bar, the Phoenix, it has been a rockin' March. Good to see all our Dino-O-Sore buddies out and hats off to Mark Cates and his lovely bride for breaking out the Harley for the night.

01/12/03
WOW! What a great time at the Phoenix. On behalf of everyone in the Band a special thanks to our three lovely friends from Mahomet (boy, if Bill had teachers like that, he never would have missed a day of school)for the special thank you unveiling of the "twins". Stuff like that makes a middle aged guy feel like our music must still be connecting with the true spirit of rock'n'roll after all these years. Thanks girls.

Hey everyone, thanks for a couple of great weeks, great gigs at the Phoenix and HighDive and smokin' outdoor shows in the parks (Taste Of Champaign, Sounds of Summer). First local band to ever have the audience demand an encore at Urbana's sounds Of Summer fest. It was an honour and we were thrilled. Thanks to everyone for all your support

06/25/02
Killer weekend. Great night at the Phoenix. Lotsa old friends and [lenty of new faces. Thanks to all for all your support.
The Saturday Taste Of Champaign gig was
very satisfying and we want to thank the crowd for staying the whole time in 92 degree weather!
And thanks to the legendary Delta Prince - The Mojo Hojo Kid for sitting in on Harp!!

06/02/02
Super cool weekend past. Great to be back at the Phoenix and The Kates' anniversary party @ Huffman's campground down on the lake in Mattoon was an incredible evening of goodtimes.
Congrats to Mark & Linda and also to Mark & Liz who got married there that night as well.

05/04/02

Great night of rockin' & rollin' at the Phoenix in downtown Champaign last night. Hats off to Doug Schroer (sp)for super harmonica playing through the night. Lotsa wonderful women inspiring the band to greater heights from the dance floor. The band previewed lotsa new tunes from the oft rumored new record, tentatively titled "Roadhouse Hullaballoo. See ya next week at Iron Post or Friendly's. Thanks for comin'

04/13/02
Another super fine evening at the Phoenix. Dancin', romancin', groovin' and Kenny playin' his ass off. And Gary got to leave with the girl of his dreams. And Theresa promised to wear her french maid outfit sometime. And Chrissy still screams & hollers like we wuz a bunch of young punks capable of giving limp biscuit a run for their money.

See ya' next week at the Jackalope in Hammond, Illinois...

04/08/02
Yowsah,Yowsah,Yowsah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Friendly Tavern is the most rockin' place to spend a Sunday in Illinois. We had a great time and the crowd was awesome and Bill from Champaign won a two night stay at a hotel from the owners ( a raffle). If you haven't been there, try to check it out sometime. We will be posting a bunch of new dates there soon. Again, thanks for all your fantastic support and Ms. Sandra for helping with the "Mustang Sally" vocalizing. See you at the Phoenix on Friday.

02/22/02
Good News, Bad News!!!
Terry and the baby are fine and he is out of the Hospital, but tonights show at the Phoenix has been CANCELLED!
In all seriousness tho' he is much better.

02/18/02
Wow! 2 great nights in a row! First Friday with our Brothers & Sisters from
the Dinosores and then Saturday at Proud Marys' with our friends from Embarass (pronounced "M-Bra" for you city folk)Valley A.B.A.T.E. Two nights of wall to wall denim & leather and Maximum Rock & Roll partying. Thanks to all concerned. Also, thanks to all our regular buds who braved the interstate highway system to make it down...

02/16/02
Thanks for a great time to Night Train and the Dinosore's at the Pink House in Ogden. They sure know how to have a good time. This roadhouse was packed to the walls with great folks and it was a great Valentines Day dance for the Black On Blue Dinosores. A great group. The Dinosores are roaming the earth again!!!

01/19/02
Heyo!!!
Two great gigs in a row. First the Iron Post and then the Phoenix. Lotsa new faces (and dancers!!!) and wild times. Next week we are down at the Jackalope in Hammond (Illinois that is, swimming pools, movie stars... Come on down for the great pizza and the equally saucy & crispy Delta Kings. Thanks for all your incredible support!!!

01/07/02
Thank you all for anothher incredible night at the Phoenix! Great crowd, cold beer, hot women, cool dudes and warm fuzzies all around. Apparently, since L'il Ed did not show ( at least, in a timely fashion), we had the Phoenix filled to capacity. We made lotsa new buds, including the guys from The Last Chance Blues Band out of Springfield. Gotta check them out soon. Maybe we can get them up here to play... Also, sorry to our friend, the ever lovely Mrs. C. She came with her charming hubby and we tried unsuccessfully to induce (vibrate) labor. Soon baby, soon baby. Good to see some old friends and also the posse from the ol' WEBX. See you all soon....

2001
12/16/01
Another great week in Delta King History (hey, history it is - we are approaching our 10th anniversary as a foursome - yes, we are working on some special event stuff for the occasion). First a super great show @ the HighDive opening for the fab Charlie Robison ( a big deal if you follow those silly video networks) and then an insanely outrageous (even by our recent standards) gig at the Phoenix. First the fabulous and all the way from Saybrook, Hillbilly Jones boys opened for us (which meant time away from their loved ones and their farm animal friends -hillbilly love afterall) and they came out with a blistering and groovin' set of neo-rockabilly informed by a post70's "rawk"and mid '80's punk sensibility and nearly smoked us off to sulk in the corner in shame. But there was no room in the corner as they had brought their "special friends" from the barnyard kingdom - have you ever seen a cow ashamed of the love that dare not speak its name. But the DK boys rose to the occasion and tried to keep the enrgy level up and the crowd went wild. Lotsa girls shakin' their wild thang and lotsa cool DK spaghetti strap tees were sold & worn. Terry helped all with trying them on. Next week on to Effingham for some ungodly reason. If you are thataways stop by and say "aw shucks, you boys make my big toe tingle"...

11/26/01
Thanks to Sherly N. for catching a typo on the schedule. Cody owes her a beer!

11/25/01
Lotsa new dates added, including an opening slot at the HighDive and a gig at the Phoenix with the boys from Hillbilly Jones opening the night.

11/19/01
Wowie Zowie! Do they know how to rrrock at the Friendly Tavern or what. We are talking serious dancin' on tables, lotsa cool lookin' women in Harley leather & denim and sporting those ever popular Delta King spaghetti T's. WE came and we rocked. Thanks to Lucinda Williams for the loan of her straw cowboy hat!!! Damn!!!

11/10/01
It was a night to remember (if you could) at the Fabulous Phoenix. Terry found God, Billy found funny pictures and Kenny found the perfect wave. The band played well, Cody broke a personal best record and broke 3 strings in one song!! Hope to see you next week at the Friendly Tevern in fair olde Danville.

11/04/01
Thanks to everyone at the Jackalope and to all our great friends from Bethany, Sullivan and Decatur for showing up and making it a truly rockin' evening. Lotsa beautiful women dancing all night.
How can you go wrong wit dat?

10/13/01
Another fantastic night at the ever popular world famous Phoenix! The Delta Kings hit the stage at eggsackly 9:23 and proceeded to rock the blues and kick butt. Sure, it wuz smokey, but a lot of that smoke came off of the blazing fretboards and poundi' skins & tins. And then, sure as "dead men don't talk", Howard Golub joined the boys for a set of his patented "Hojo Mojo" and took it up another notch. And then, as if that wasn't enough for your entertainment dollar, guitar slinger extraordinaire, Bobby Watson showed up and played a number on the bandstand with the boys!!!! A night of local rock'n'roll glory. Whatta night! (ps - you got to try the Phoenix's Cheesecake Schnapps - wow)

10/06/01
Well, believe it or not, 9:00 a.m. came and went and the Delta Kings took the stage at the U of I tailgate smack dab on the middle of Florida Avenue. Tho' the legendary Koko Hardin, our local Queen of The Blues, sent her regrets "She don't get up to sing nowhere on a Saturday morning" - or words to that effect), Fightin' Illini Isaac (aka Hojo Golub) sat in for some rip-snortin' harmonicafying. Hats off to Hojo Mojo. Thanks to the crew from CV Lloyd's for a great job with the sound.

Please note, some changes in the schedule.

09/24/01
WOW! Whatta great time at the Friendly Tavern in Danville yesterday. Mike & Ruthie were great hosts as usual. Lotsa bikes, including one gentleman dressed as Uncle Sam. Mike had Uncle Sam pass the hat for the brave firefighters of NYC. And girls were dancin'on tables and people were having a generally very Friday night kinda Sunday. Love that club, Love that town!

09/22/01
Well, the mighty Kings finally had a rough night. It was like Rodney Dangerfield for a Rock'n'Roll band. Noooo respect! We played in Peoria at the Alley Cat and as they say in corporate circles, it was definitely not a good fit.
However, on the positive side, as the night wore on (and I mean "wore on"), thanks to the arrival of some local friends and the indomitable #1 fan/supporter/friend, the lovely Colleen from Paxton, it became a little more tolerable. In fact, we had Terry from Peoria sit in on guitar & vocals for some kick ass blues playin'. Don't forget, tomorrow Danville!

09/16/01
Well, The Delta Kings travelled down to Hammond, Illinois to play at the Jackalope Sports Bar. Thanks to the people who came all the way from Champaign just to help us feel welcome. We had a great time and they want us to go back, gluttons for punishment Chad & Mike must be. Good pizza too! We are off to Peoria this Friday. That's a mighty long ways from here, but the band is willing to go where no band has gone before (okay, that is a bit of a stretch, hell, we have even been there, but you get the point). We are pleased to report that the new CD is selling well, so don't be the last to let it pass, that you didn't check out the gas. Ian & Nate say hi.

08/27/01
Hey everyone, thanks for a great & rowdy time in Mahomet this weekend. Vern, Mike and Mrs. Mike, Nora, Lisa & Jeff and the redoubtable Bob, "the original party animal" sure know how to make the Delta Kings feel welcome. And they nearly cleaned us out of the new DK CD, "Done Fell Out The Back".

Sunday, we went to Dreamcatcher Studios in beautiful downtown Saybrook and cut 2 more songs for our next record, including what used to be a reggae tune, but is now primal Neil YOung/Crazy Horse kind of vibe, as well as the legendary "Barbershop", penned by none other than our own Kenny McNichols. We are making progress. ALso, honorary Delta Prince, Howard Golub (Deadbeats & Boat Drunks fame) came by on Saturday to add his terrific harmonica talents to the new record. Thank you, young Howard. See ya soon.

08/20/01
Great time (as usual) at the Friendly Tavern. Mike and his gang know how to have a good time on Sunday. Thanks to Caroline, Barbara, Colleen and the Indianapolis contingent; Melissa & Tim, Ray & Joanne, for braving the weather and the roads to make it out to Danville. Kudos to Melissa's for her new Sportster. That girl is Rock'n'Roll.

08/19/01
Thanks to everyone for making the Iron Post such a great time. We have to admit, that all your support is really appreciated. We are sure that owner Paul Wurth was thrilled to have such a rowdy and happy bunch in there Friday!
We're off to Friendly Tavern in Danville. Hope to see you there...

08/14/01
Wow, Whatta great week last week. Lotsa folks in the park and wild times at the ol' Phoenix. Thanks to the Bethany-Sullivan contingent for making it out all the way from down South. We are still working on the new, new as yet untitled cd and we should have "done fell out the back" out-takes cd ready next week. Major thanks to Larry & Chuck at the WHIP for playing their advance copy! Terry quit the band temporarily last week to work on his "solo" album, and to try his luck as an Avon lady, but then realized what was the point of that, so he's back in.
(he didn't really quit at all, but we are so desperate for drama that I am making stuff up). We just added a ton more dates to the sight tonight (assuming that I actually get t it tonight).

Also, a big thanks to our Web-master, Nour, for getting the sight back up and working right. Whatta Duuude!

07/25/01
Great gigs this past week, despite the humid & hot weather. The band played in Robeson Park in Champaign last Wednesday. Then last Thursday, the band played at the first ever Annual Decatur Blues Fest in Central Park in Downtown opening for Chicago's Howard and The White Boys. We had a incredible time and it blew our minds to hear over 500 folks (of all colors, races, ages etc - Rainbow City Y'all)sing along on Mustang Sally. Hugely gratifying. We heard, tho' we would be too modest to say it ourselves, that a lot of the people there thought we held our own, artistically and audience-wise, with H &TWB. We will look forward to next year. Again, thanks to all our friends in from Decatur, Sullivan & Bethany for coming down and showing their support for the band.

We will be off on another hiatus for the next couple of weeks, but will return to the world of smokey bars and wild times soon. Gone Fishin'

06/10/01
Thanks to "Popeye" Curtsinger for featuring the entire "Damn Thing Bites" on his Sunday afternoon Local Music show on Parkland's WPCD (great station, by the way and no commercials!)88.7.
Thanks, Popeye!

06/10/01
My Gawd!!Whatta night @ Central Illinois' A.B.A.T.E. event at Miner's egg farm! Night Train and his group made us feel very, very welcome. The membership were whoopin' & hollerin' and we didn't leave the stage until almost 2:00 (get ready, here comes another explanation point)!! These folks know how to party! And of course the "special event/competitition" was incredible and unlike any we have ever been asked to "judge". Terry and your humbled columnist did our best in conferring with Night Train and Too Tall to make sure that absolute fairness was the order of the day. As to what event, I am referring too, suffice it to say that discretion is definitely the better part of valour, but it was, afterall a huge outdoor party that involved cool guys & gals who love their Harleys. So use your imagination. However, I am duty bound to report that gender-wise there was something for everybody... Hmmm... You hadda be there and hopefully we will be there next year! Once again, thanks to Night Train and his membership. I know that the goings on on stage at 1:50, while the Kings played Mustang Sally will live on in our hearts & minds forever. I know Billy has been waiting 9 years for that moment. Hey Bill, who said dreams can't come true? Even Kenny was smiling!

We haven't been sending out emails where we are playing lately, due to the fact that we have been playing MC Club related mostly private or membership functions. However, we shall be back in a couple of weeks and be playing in C-U at the Phoenix. Terry has to go off and get his "drum faster" medication dosage increased and I am going off to be chased by the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Kenny will be flying to New York to meet with his team of investment advisors, while Billy will be working on getting a bowling ball glow to his new haircut! We will, but of course, stay in touch...
Until we meet again.

06/04/01
Wow!! Bodie won himself a $20,000 Harley Davidson Motorcycle for the price of one $100 raffle ticket. And it was for good cause. Hats off to Patti, Stu and all their friends for "Taking Care Of Business". Also, if you ever happen to be in Buckley (yeah, I know, not that likely, but you never know...), be sure to visit one of the coolest clubs the DK boys have ever played. The 103 Club. Butch and his wife have a great place with a back room for bands and a big dance floor and even enough room for a big black Harley (and believe me I know!). Good food and good fun. I still can't believe that I didn't win the bike. I guess next time, I better buy a ticket, huh? It was a pleasure to see Caroline (of Phoenix fame) and Ms. Barbara out there too.
Also, there is a contest afoot. See if you can come up with a name for Bill's new Fender Bass. His Teal one is called Hope, so Gloria is in the running... Be sure to catch Torrence Thursday on THE WHIP between the hours of 4ish and 7ish pm.
Cody extends a huge thanx to the redoubtable DR. TWANG, of the U.I. for hot-rodding his Fender Vibro-King amp. He's finally LOUDER THAN KENNY! Lastly, on the news front, the band is making terrific progress on the new record. We already have basic tracks in the can for at least 13-15 songs (I can't count, sorry). We have already started overdubs and this stuff should see the light of day before Terry's hair turns gray ( oh, well you know what I mean).
See you this weekend at the A.B.A.T.E. show.

05/06/01
GODDAMN!!!!!
IN FACT, GODDAMN TRUTH!!!!
Man the folks in Mahomet are so good to us. We had a great night at Auggies! Lotsa friends and lotsa new folks and partying and just a general evening of good fun and good spirits. Our favorite life force seed couple were there (no names please - we are trying to be newly discreet). Our friends from the Harley owners of Illinois were there, as well as our fave (see life force reference above)Mahomet DK Mafia were out in force and even Stokes,Bill, Liz & Tammy came out from Champaign (after the Robbie Fulks show) came out. Jody was her usual charming and hospitable self (even after catching me dipping into the bar food at the end of the night) and of course who will ever forget Terry's reading of the "napkin of Love" from some nubile teen in the audience!!!
I bet that is the last time that shhe ever writes on a napkin!!!....
Hey if I am a web-master, does that make me a web dominator?
Wellgodblessyaall and long live Rock'n'Roll and the people who support it...Rock'n'Roll' high school Joey.....

04/15/01
WOW! GREAT NIGHT AT THE PHOENIX!!!! Thanks to everyone for making it such a major rock'n'rollin' event. Thanks to the lovely & talented songbird seductress, Ms.Kathy Hardin for getting up with the boys and makin' us sound so damn fine!! What a set of pipes. And as always, the lovely & talented Magic Doug for blowin' some mean-ass harp and making our blues extra blue!!! Dawna Nelson was there, but she claimed a medical exception and chose not to get up and jam. Maybe next time... Thanks to all the Phoenix regulars, as well as, the gang from Daily & Associates for cutting the rug while we were playing. Oh celebrity spotters, did you catch Brad Elvis from the legendary Illinois faves, the Elvis Brothers, at the show. Extra thanks to Scottso for helping with the load out.
Thanks to Ms. Christine for modeling the DKNY shirt behind the bar. Ever so fetching.
Delta King Fast Fact #1
Did you know all the gear weighs twice as much at closing as it did at load-in.

We're sorry we ran out of the fashion must-have of the season - the Delta King spaghetti strap tank top from DKNY ("DK" as in "Delta King Now Y'all" not some lady named Donna Karan, like who is she anyway?). WWHP radio personality Terry Hawkins, swears he will order more in time for next week. Hey, should we get DK bandanas/caps?

Well, that's it for now cats & kitties.See ya next week at the Iron Post in Urbana!

04/08/01
Thanks to everyone at Friendly Tavern in Danville for a fantastic time. Congrats to Gary & Monica on their wedding. We turned the gig into a big wedding party for everyone there. And big thanks to Mike and his lively wife for making the Kings feel so welcome. Mike took a photo of the band standing by the $2,300,000 worth of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles belonging to the Friendly's regulars. We counted at least 63 bikes there tonight.

Oh grab 'em while they are in cuz they are hot - our new DK tank tops for girls!!! Cool and perfect for summer.

Also, in band news, tho' we will begin demos for our new record on April 22nd, we have decided to release, due to popular demand a collection of Delta King b-sides and out-takes from the sessions for the first record, (and all-around general impatience with our snail-like pace. Tentative titles for the disc are "The marijuana masters" ( an oblique reference to our engineer's mental state at the time) and another is "the Paraquat Tapes" If you have any suggestions, please see Terry.

Well that is it for now. See you Friday at the Phoenix (thanks to Caroline and Barbara for showing up today in Danville)in beautiful, happening Downtown Champaign. See ya 'round the playground...

04/07/01
Woh! What a night at Uncle Buck's. The band got to meet Aunt Buck for the first time. Also, great birthday party for the Delta Kings Mahomet posse...Bonnie, Mary & Karen. Also, congrats to the first lucky lady who purchased this season's fashion must have...no, not Terry's trousers, but a DK Tank Top in the ever so fashionable black color! Stylin'dudette! Sparky was there with his lovely gal, Bonnie. And congrats to Tim & Tracy on the planting of the life force seed. don't forget the DK's cradle to grave fan club membership. Well, we're off to Danville for Sunday 4-8 at the Friendly Tavern. Come on down and experience a Saturday night on a Sunday afternoon!

04/01/01
Thanks to everyone for making Saturday at Slick Rick's so much fun. Hey, it's the only bar where the owner asks the Delta Kings to turn it up!(?)!! Thanks for Rodney from the WHIP for coming out to the show. If you dig the "Power-Pop Thang", be sure sure to check out the Rodman's show every Saturday Evening around 5/6 to 7ish! We will be at the wild & rowdy Uncle Buck's in Mahomet and Friendly Tavern in Danville this coming weekend. We hope to sees ya's there!! Also, our hats off to the lovely & talented Julie Swan for coming up and singing "I'm A Woman" with the boys. Anytime she wants to make us sound good, she is welcome to sing a number with us.

Also, check out the new link with Boots USA. Good quality leather motorcycle gear at great prices. Now we always say shop locally, but if your local guys don't have it, Frank @ Boots USA will.

03/24/01
Wild night at the Phoenix for both the fightin' Illini Fans and Delta King fans. Lotsa good and wild times were had by all. Extra special thanks to our cheerleader girl, Christina & our upstairs French maid, Theresa. You had to be there to believe it. Special note to Jim - c'mon buy a pair of cowboy chaps and make your wife's fantasy come true. See ya's next Saturday at the wild and crazy Slick Ricks in Bloomington.

Hopefully, we will have a new supply of DK T-shirts very soon, including a limited quantity of small muscle T's. See Terry to reserve yours now.

Last bit of news is the Kings will begin the demo process for their next studio LP beginning 4/22/01. Hopefully, we should have a finished record by the next millenium.

My new guitar and Kenny's new Ibanez Tube Screamer pedal say hi. That's it for now.

03/11/01
Well it was a fantastic Birthday party for Emily last night. Emily & her terrific beau, Steve, threw a incredibly fun party. Great food, good spirits and good cheer was had by all. Vern and Penny were there, looking cool as usual, Ralph cam with Ms. Jackie all the way from the Ozarks and of course, the mighty Bob from Mahomet was there (in an extra celebratory mood as always!) - plus a visit from the legendary saxophone player "Lonesome Larry" (he of "The WHIP" fame - official radio station of the 2001 Olympics and the Delta Kings) showed up and blew some mighty mean horn and, but of course, only made the Kings sound even more regal. Larry is available for weddings & bar mitzvahs - contact his agent Murray Takeitall. Thanks also to the staff at the Mansfield Legion for all their support and kindnesses (ie: free libations!!). Let's do it again! Happy 40th Emily!!
Well I am off on an archaelogical dig in Paris, Illinois to find bones of dead used car dealers........
See ya all in a couple of weeks.

03/09/01

Hey Cats & Kitties, we just have started adding summer dates to our schedule page. Check it out!

We are going to play this weekend at Emily's special birthday party, so we won't be around this week.
We won't be around the following week either. Terry has to go to the Brazilian Rain Forest with Sting and supply each native village with N'SYNC cd's. Whatta saint! And Kenny's has to play an out of town game with his racquet ball team. Go Team Go!

Hey Delta Princes & Princesses! Welcometo the royal family of Champaign County Rock'n'Rollers!
Thanks for a great gig in the big room at Auggies This weekend. We appreciated you all letting us take out about 8 songs for a test drive! Your response was very supportive & encouraging.

This coming weekend, we shall be playing at a very special private party for a certain very young Emily M. who is celebrating a milestone Birthday. However, because, we are not only Delta Kings, but Delta Gentlemen, as well, we shall not discuss age, other than to say Emily is probably still carded for I.D. when ordering a cocktail.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY!!!!!!

We now have national distribution for our albums, thanks to the fine folks at RedTrumpet.com. Red Trumpet is an Internet "bizrate" award winning Internet music retailer specializing in audiophile, import, limited edition vinyl LP's, and CD's. And they are great people too! Highly recommended for their great customer service!!!

Also, the photos page has been updated with a picture of the award presented to us by The Octopus for "Best Local Band" and "Best Rock Band," as well as three new photos from our latest gig at The Highdive.

The web site has been freshly redesigned and updated! Click here to take a peek at the not-so-old page. In other news, Bill got a new Fender Bass! Pictures of the bass guitar will be added to the "BAND GEAR" section shortly.

Special thanks goes out to the Whip/WWHP-FM for all their support. Special thanks to the readers of the Octopus for voting us number 1 in both the "Best Rock Band" and "Best Local Band" categories. Also, thanks goes out to our web lackey, Nour Sharabash, for creating the site.
